Inside Happiness

January 7, 2008

Every day, hundreds of Nonprofits are started by compassionate, hard-working people striving to help others and make the world a better place. Many Nonprofits have a powerful, long-lasting impact and grow over time with the support of dedicated volunteers, philanthropists, even governments. Unfortunately, an incredible amount of Nonprofits have limited impact or are terminated due to a lack of know-how and resources.

Happiness Foundation’s mission is to unlock the hidden potential inside all of us to use our knowledge and skills to accelerate the impact of Nonprofits. Happiness Foundation provides pro bono consulting services to Nonprofits, helping them achieve their full potential. The Foundation works as a matchmaker between Volunteer Consultants and Nonprofits. Through the Foundation, business leaders and experts donate their time, knowledge, and contact networks to Nonprofits.

After 6 years, the concept of a knowledge-based volunteer organization has proven successful. Over 100 Volunteer Consultants from around the world have contributed their time, knowledge, and energy to the Foundation. Over 100 Corporate Sponsors have made in-kind donations. We received a grant from the Danish Ministry of Social Affairs and were endorsed by Ernst & Young at Entrepreneur Of The Year awards in 2002.

I have spent several years building up Happiness Foundation together with a dedicated Board of Directors. Since my move from Copenhagen to New York in 2005, the Foundation has unfortunately been dormant. Now that I am settled in New York, I am thrilled to announce Happiness Foundation has been incorporated as a US not-for-profit corporation and that we have applied for private foundation status exempt from tax under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Over the next 15 months, our intention is to create a small headquarters with an Executive Director, a Engagement Director, and a Recruitment Director who will draw on our Volunteer Consultants and Corporate Sponsors for support. The Foundation is expecting to involve about 30 Volunteer Consultants, engage in a minimum of 7 Nonprofits, and publish The Handbook, a comprehensive guide to knowledge-based volunteering.

Guardianship provides the financial backbone of Happiness Foundation and we are at this time looking for a few individuals or companies who feel as excited about this approach as we do and want to become Guardians. But there are also other ways you can help us make Happiness Foundation a success:

If you are interested in learning more about the Foundation or our Guardianship program, please contact me directly at +1 (917) 403-6434 or mickey@happiness.org.

Thank you for your time and interest.
